The scope and classification of data protection depends on the way in which it is approached i.e. if it is seen as the protection of privacy, protection against abusive data processing or protection of personal rights. For example, § 1 section 1 of the Federal Data Privacy Laws (BDSG) states: “The purpose of this law is to protect the individual in such a way that the handling of any personal data must not impair the personal rights.”
In today’s media driven information society data about citizens is being collected, processed and even potentially transferred to third parties at many points, i.e by companies or the government. Especially in the event business it is not only the visitors of events who are affected by booking tickets online, sign up for newsletters or see posts and tweets by their favourite artists but also the artists themselves as well as event organisers
